Aims
& Objectives:
The Center for Rural Health and Social
Education enables villages to become self-supporting in primary health care
by training village level workers selected by the communities. It also
trains traditional birth attendants in Siddha medicine and operates a herbal
nursery where Siddha medicine preparations and demonstrations take place. It
aids in the formation of women and youth groups, women's socio-economic
programs and literacy programs. It has developed a number of projects aimed
at the protection and regeneration of the environment-formation of eco
cells, community forest action programs and environmental education in
schools.
It offers technical support to other organizations
in the form of consultancy project advisors and evaluation services.
Training is conducted both internally and on behalf of other organizations
on an ongoing basis. Village level workers undergo a one-year training in
primary health care. Refresher courses are organized for in-service and
autonomous VLWs. Training programs in community organization, communication,
women's development, skill training for women (typewriting and handloom),
environmental awareness and Siddha medicine are provided to CRHSE staff and
groups.
It provides training regularly and on request to other
organizations such as 45-day compact VLW course, techniques of non-formal
education and organizational management. Training is practical in
orientation and organized on a participatory basis. It is conducted at
CRHSE's Human Resources Development Center or at any one of the four fields
based community centers, located within the project area. Training is
available in Tamil and English.
