Aasara

Main Aims & Objectives

Aasara is a registered trust working for the uplift of street children and young people who have left home. The group works in Thane and adjoining areas. Aasara is presently involved in bettering the lives of over 350 children comprised of shoe-shine boys, rag-pickers, snack-sellers, flower-and-vegetable vendors and destitute children. Aasara conducts programmes on preventive and curative health for them, educates them on nutrition, saving-and-income-generation schemes, gives them vocational guidance and also provides them recreation facilities at their various centers in Kalyan, Ulhasnagar, Vithalwadi, Kurla and Badlapur (Mumbai). Aasara also provides a night-stay facility in Thane for young children. The centers provide a clean and friendly environment for its young residents, and Aasara also organizes tours for them to places of interest. Aasara also prepares them for higher education, provides healthcare with the help of Lions Club and Rotary International. The children are also provided with snacks and refreshments at the centers. Savings are encouraged, bank-accounts opened whenever needed, facilities for bathing as well as indoor and outdoor games provided. Aasara welcomes encouragement for its activities and is open to interacting with like-minded groups.
