Duryodhan" & "Rakshasa" Award Instituted. The Maharashtra state commission for women (MSCW) has instituted a unique set of awards aptly titled the "Duryodhan Award" for bad films and advertisements and the "Rakshasa Award" for films propagating violence. The awards will be given for the first time in March 2002. The qualifying factors, for films, tele-serials and advertisements, will include portrayal of women in poor light, propagation of customs like dowry, eulogizing patriarchal values, promoting gender insensitivity and eve-teasing, unnecessary rape scenes and co modification of women's bodies. The award has been instituted on lines similar to Britain's most dreaded literary prize - " Bad Sex Award" which is given to authors who write badly about sex in this books. |
