Glorious
Bathrooms Deepika Jain
It
is essential to know which factors interplay within the interior
of the bathroom to give it a complete and relaxing look. For
different people and diverse families, bathroom serves various
purposes. It can be a place for a quick shower, a long relaxing
bubble bath or a quiet place to read paper! Thus, it is of
utmost importance to give it an ambience of serenity and
cheerfulness, which welcomes you every time you step into that
door.
Selecting the right colour for your family is of
prime importance as the rest of the equipment and accessories
can be chosen only after basic colours are decided. There are
hundreds of options available but personal choice is the
dominating factor with the goal of achieving a pleasant,
personal and comfortable home. Colour scheme should be according
to the age factor. Women prefers soft colours and designs while
men like darker colours and masculine shades like black and dark
green. Children's bathrooms are usually thematic sporting
cartoon characters, fairy tales or fruity patterns. In the
middle-income groups, there is a marked preference for pastel
shades. Blue, red and yellow are the primary colours, which are
the foundations of the colour wheel, and all other colours are
derived from them. If we understand the colour wheel properly,
it is easier to decide the best colour scheme and other
secondary colours like orange and green and tertiary colours
like olive, lime, etc.
Varying intensity, strength or
dilution is used by interior designers to give a fascinating and
novel effect by either tinting (adding white) or toning (adding
black) or by greying (adding complementary colours). Also, they
create contrast through a change in value (lightness and
darkness) or intensity (brightness and dullness). Even, with
this limited information, it is easy to see how the
possibilities for combining colours are infinite and inviting.
Colours are properly enhanced to give their true tones
only if they are balanced with proper lighting scheme. A central
ceiling light is often sufficient combined with a strip light
over the mirror to give a clearer image. Those who love reading
in the bath may have to add an extra spot-specific ceiling
light. Spotlights and concealed lights behind pelmets can
provide decorative effects and give a well-lit look. Often
windows are covered with cheap traditional chicks or with a
fabric blind, which are translucent enough to enable the
bathroom to be used during day without artificial lights.
There
is unlimited choice for wall-finishes as many materials can be
used, though it is often decided by cost. A simple look requires
just a coat of paint or ceramic tiles. Emulsion paint is
inexpensive and durable than gloss paint. Ceramic tiles are easy
to clean and can be most attractive. Though they are relatively
expensive but cost can be controlled by tiling only the only
lower parts of the walls, which surrounds bathtubs, and till
basins. Walls can also sport the new look of plain, patterned,
embossed or marbled ceramic tiles which are offset by printed
borders. However, as water and soap lather are bound to splash
on the walls in the bathing area and can leave stains, therefore
the material should be carefully chosen.
To give an
elegant and classy style, the paintwork near the window and its
surrounding can be very muted to reveal the natural textures of
the original woodworks. Sanded smooth, sealed and polished paint
can be applied in symphony with natural materials such as
mahogany and pinewood panelling.
A warm non-slip
skid-resistant variety floor is ideal. Rubber-backed nylon
carpet may be used but it gets dirty easily. Cork tiles sealed
with polyurethane are an excellent alternative and easy to keep
clean. New and popular flooring options available today are more
in terms of colour than any change in material used. Italian
marble and ceramic tiles still hold the market, but the changes
seen are in the colours and the ways of laying them. Basic earth
shades are being mixed and contrasted with bolder shades to draw
attention to the floor.
To further add sparkle and a
give the impression of being fresh, a vibrant flower-vase with
fresh or dewy-artificial flowers can be put near the window.
Also a bright painting of asymmetrical patterns enhances the
mood and complements the décor. These days, people often
plan their bathrooms according to Vaastu or feng-shui. Ideally
bathrooms should be either in the South - West direction or the
North - West but should never be in the North - East corner of
the house.

Bathrooms Deepika
Jain
The
bathroom is one of the most intensively used parts. That is why
the practical aspects of design are so important. The essentials
of design are the same whether planning a new room or
redesigning an old one. They come down to sensible use of space.
The bath itself provides a good example. There must be space to
get in and out of it easily without having to climb around or
over other things and enough space to dry yourself.
Bathrooms
have come a long way from the tiny, dingy little cubicles that
our ancestors rushed in and out of as fast as they could. The
bathrooms of today are different in quality and style, ranging
from the practical to luxurious. Every individual's idea of
luxury differs, as do the features they would like to include in
their bathrooms. Current lifestyles often demand that bathrooms
offer extra facilities beyond the purely functional. Besides the
now mandatory closet storage, make-up table-cum-dresser, washing
machine or even a little nook used as a dressing space, are
increasingly seen as an integral part of the bathroom. However,
an ideal bathroom provides all solutions under one roof, as and
when you need it.
When it comes to bathroom equipments,
baths come first in mind. Over the years, a lot many variations
have been done in bath styles ranging from simple bathtubs,
acrylic bathtubs, Jacuzzis, whirlpools to saunas, steam baths or
other hot air/water jet streams. However, the choice of the
best-suited bath depends upon the space, angle of the walls and
the colour of the bathroom. Generally, it is difficult to keep
dark coloured baths clean.
Wash basins, should have an
area of flat top to keep things like soaps, brushes, etc.
Continuous counter tops can be made near it for proper storage.
Basins can be installed into the wall or in the basin. Those in
walls are favourable to clean the top of the basin. Whether it a
pedestal or one fitted into a counter, they come in a host of
shapes- be it the standard one or the triangular shape that fits
perfectly into a corner of the bathroom and avoids wastage of
space. But, enough standing space and elbow space should be
given while fixing it.
Showers-baths score over baths
as they occupy less space and save water. It is also preferred
for a quick wholesome session and is hygienic as well as
refreshing. Showers vary from a simple pipe and hand spray
fitted to the bath taps to self-contained cubicles. Readymade
shower cabinets also come in many shapes and sizes.
The
lavatory may be included among the bathroom fittings or it may
have a separate room of its own. To simplify the plumbing it is
usually next to the bathroom, or immediately below it in a
two-storey house. A variety of WC's are now available in
different shapes, flushing styles and the capacity of the
flush-which ranges from 5 to 7.5 litres, to suit to ones routine
and space available.
These days, bathroom accessories
and fixtures come in a variety of styles, material and
irresistible colour to complement one's fittings and lifestyle.
They are crafted with precision to give them functionality and
practicality and are designed to give your bathrooms a complete
and coordinated look. A wide range include designer taps, three
tap hole basin mixers with pop-up systems, swivel spout mixers,
towel rings, bathroom shelves, toilet-paper holders, hooks and
toothbrush holder, medicine cupboards, closets, and so on.
The
options for an ideal bathroom are endless and the range existing
in the market is mind-boggling. All you need to keep in mind is
to give it a coordinated and functional look not only within
itself but also with the rest of the house. In the next article,
we shall talk about the interiors - floorings, lighting, walls,
and ceilings - of the bathroom.

Planning
your Kitchen Deepika Jain
Kitchens
require much more advice and careful planning than any other
room in the house. In today's fast-paced and hectic lifestyle,
kitchens also serve as an additional room for cosy teas and
casual talks for the family members. A practical and functional
style designed to suit individual needs is the key word. Whether
it is an elaborate five-course meal or a simple snack, the
layout and placement of utilities in the kitchen should be such
to help you produce your meal with the minimum time and effort.
Food brought in the shop has to be stored, prepared and cooked
before being served in proper utensils. Thus, a kitchen should
be planned to suit not only the particular lifestyle, but also
to serve each of the aforesaid purposes. Thus, a coordinated
layout can be devised that will accommodate additional items.
Storage
is mainly of three types: Base fitments, wall fitments and tall
fitments. Base fitments are fitted with or designed to support
the work surface, they may be floor standing or wall-mounted.
Wall fitments are shallow units. All fitments should provide
efficient but accessible storage, and be adaptable to
rearrangements for future. Modular kitchen shelves are very much
in demand these days because of their flexibility and
adaptability. Look out for fitments that offer a range of useful
internal accessories like multiple shallow drawers for storing
things of daily usage than a single deep drawer. Similarly,
other equipments and fittings like refrigerators, dishwashers,
cooking ranges, microwave ovens, hob units, food processors,
etc., should be bought with great care and precision. What may
be in vogue may not suit your needs, budget or the size of your
kitchen. For these units, corner space, floor space and
user-friendliness have to be kept in mind. For instance,
refrigerator needs proper ventilation space at the back for the
coils or a dishwasher is better placed near sink since it needs
water and drainage. There is no single best buy in the kitchen
as differing requirements of safety, hygiene and functionality
are difficult to club together in a single product.
Designing
a kitchen is much more than purchase and installation of
attractive gadgets though they do make work easier and
efficient. However, basic services of lighting, power, heating,
ventilation and water - all needs to be considered with equal
care. Often old traditions die-hard. Windows are still
considered as the main source of lighting and ventilation. A
single overhead ceiling light, non-glare bulbs and cool tubes
should be used effectively to eliminate areas of shadows and
enhance overall brightness. Extractor fans or exhaust fans are
an essential feature of the kitchen to supplement proper
ventilation. Apart from removing steams and smells, they
sometimes save redecoration costs too. Power supply in the
kitchen should be carefully done as it not only houses
electrical appliances but also a cylinder of gas and other
inflammable articles. Few kitchens have enough power sockets.
There should be minimum of one socket for every four portable
domestic devices. Large electrical appliances like fridge need
their own permanent power supply supported with a voltage
stabiliser or a transformer. From the point of safety, switches
should be at least three feet away from the sink or burner and
out of reach of small children.
Waste disposal in a
pail or in a pedal bin, should preferably be kept outside the
kitchen to keep all germs and mosquitoes at bay. Sinks will need
to be placed near in relation to plumbing. The usual placement
technique of placing it by the window is still the most
preferred one as it offers natural light for long periods. Also,
sinks should be avoided in corners where light is muted or
substated as shady, moist areas act as potential breeding ground
for germs. Water impermeable material round the corners is a
must.
Decorating is the last stage of kitchen planning.
Using colourful or contrasting tiles and bright cupboards break
away the monotony of brown wood. Generally, surfaces should be
scratch-resistant, matt and easily cleaned ones. Textured or
coloured surfaces help to conceal blemishes and stains.
Similarly, flooring can offer many options in wood, ceramic,
tiles, etc. Nevertheless, the ideal material should be
non-slippery, easy-to-clean, safe and hygienic. Ultimately a
successful kitchen is one that matches the way of life of the
family that uses it.

Altering
a house: The Inside Story Deepika Jain
In
every interior there are a number of elements which interplay to
affect the shape and character of a room. By careful
consideration, the function of the interior can be emphasized
retaining its beauty and dignity.
One big room can be
divided into two small rooms according to the purposes of use.
For instance, one big dining room can be divided into two rooms
by using artificial dividing walls, screen walls, carved
separators, false ceilings or different floor coverings and
colour schemes, which help each room to retain its separate
identity. Similarly, when two small rooms are turned into one
big room, the same kind of floorings and paint used throughout
is the simplest and most efficient method to make them look as
one. Often, doors and sliding also help to create the desired
effect. Redundant door and windows can be removed or a sliding
or folding doors can be added as a divider between two rooms.
The success of this conversion is the removal of the dividing
wall, which raises the level of natural lighting and
dramatically increases the sense of space. However, in such
cases, a skillful use of colour, texture and floor coverings are
essential factors to contrast or coordinate.
In a
house, where there are no children or elderly people, floor
levels can be done to give a new and fresh look. Such split
level addition by a slightly higher or lower level than the
original; with different floor coverings and colour schemes can
heighten the dramatic effect. A successful scheme encourages a
relaxed atmosphere. In dining room, easy access is headed from
the kitchen by a convenient door. Also seating arrangements
should aim to suit all members of the family yet allow
rearrangement when a guest comes. Adjustments like hinged doors,
flap table or built-in-bench seats save space in small dining
area. Similarly, extra bedroom space can be vital for a growing
family, but planning how to create it depends on the type of
house in which you live. Imaginative schemes are possible, using
interlocking bunk-bed arrangements to form partition, when
converting one large room into separate rooms for growing
children. Where possible, these schemes should be planned around
existing doors and windows, so that both rooms can have light,
ventilation and access. Similarly, a child's bedroom undergoes
alterations through the years - a nursery, playroom, study and
teenage room and a bedroom. Accessibility, storage and safety
are the key issues to be kept into mind while changing it
through the years. Colours also play a strong role to give the
illusion of changed proportions. A strong colour on the beams
and ceilings and a dark colour matching carpet help to suggest a
wider and shallower room. Dark-colured walls and white ceilings
would create an opposite effect. The emphasis is on practical
improvement scheme.
Once you identify your needs well
and get familiar with the plan of your house, countless ideas
for decorations can be gleaned to give a new refreshing
face-lift.In our forthcoming articles , we shall talk about all
of these elements in detail.

Altering
a house without changing its character: A beginning Deepika
Jain
Many
of us face a problem that either the house is much outdated or
it has too little space. Such kind of situation offers two
choices - either to alter the present structure or to move to a
new larger house. However, cash and convenience are two major
factors that interplay and affect one's decision. Most homes
offer scope, both from inside and outside, for expansion to meet
the challenging needs of a family. Therefore, existing space can
be used to better advantage. Carefully planned and executed
improvements add steadily to the value of a house. To know your
house well is the most valuable information you can have. Once
you study your house carefully and minutely, alternative
solutions may present themselves. If you are uncertain about its
potential, employ an architect or an interior designer to make a
feasibility study. He/she may suggest a number of ways of
extending or altering the property, such as converting loft
space, entrance porch, building a two-storey extension or
dividing a large dining room into two rooms or combining two
small rooms into one. Similarly, from inside the same space can
be changed from a monotonous look to a new, refreshing ambience
by redesigning kitchen or living area, adding cloakroom to a
floor or by changing upholstery.
An aesthetically
pleasing conversion is the result of handling the various
elements with skill and understanding. When complete, the
conversion will be a better compromise of both practical
requirements and beauty than the original design. When altering
a house from outside, there can be two ways: one that matches
the existing structure using similar colour and texture and the
other is to make a contrast without destroying a sense of
harmony. It is almost impossible to build an extension that
matches the previous weathered structure. However, embodying
similar principles can retain harmony. Avoid using too many
materials, as variety will create a cluttered and restless
exterior. If it is an upper floor construction, similar paint or
a retouch will blend it aesthetically. In addition, windows of
different types, wood, metal, metal-and-wood, sliding - all add
together to give a new different look. A fake roof - lean-to,
flat or pitched roof can also add a dramatic and interesting
touch, if the materials are used as a decorative device,
particularly when the outer corner of the fake roof can be seen.
Similarly, precautions need to be taken for every
small change that has to be done. For example, the time to paint
is the driest. Brickwork or stonework, which has acquired a film
of dirt-can be restored by cleaning and re-painting. As an
alternative, it can also be given a weather proof and decorative
finish with a coat of masonry paint. Last but not the least,
wall plants and houseplants if thoughtfully used will improve
the appearance of almost every house. A careful balance of the
same elements of design - materials, construction, scale and
proportion - whether matching or contrasting act as a benefactor
of a good home.

THE EFFECTS OF
ELEVATIONS I (
24th September -- 30th September 2001 )
If the ground on a plot, when one desires to build a house on
it, is elevated on the
North, the owner suffers from the loss of sons.
If the South-East side is elevated, there will be monetary loss.
If the South is elevated, the owner gains health.
If the South-West is elevated, there will be monetary benefit.
If the West is elevated, the owner will be blessed with sons and
prosperity of progeny.
If the North-West is elevated, there will be the benefit of
Wealth, agricultural produce and luxurious life.
If the North is elevated, there will be monetary loss and the
owner suffers from poverty.
If the North-East is elevated, the owner suffers from worries,
decline of his family and is troubled by poverty
If the Central part of the plot is elevated, the owner will lead
an aristocratic life.
The Effects of Depressions
On the plot, where a house is to be built, if the East side is
low the owner enjoys long life, heath and wealth, strong
constitution, respect from higher-ups and immense pleasure.
If the ground is low on the South-East side, there will be fear
from fire and enemies, the owner involves himself/herself in
sinful deeds and suffers from mental worry.
If the South side is low, the owner suffers always from loss of
health and wealth and is threatened by fear of death. If one
lives in a house built on such a plot, one loses ones
sons. Even if a temple is built on such a plot where the south
side is low, the God installed in that temple will meet with
destruction.
If the South-West is low, the inhabitants will have to face loss
of wealth and most often suffer from diseases and fear of
demise.
If the West is low, wealth and agricultural produce will perish.
Such a plot causes melancholy and destruction of family.
If the North-West is low, the number of enemies increase, kith
and kin perish, women perish, the owner pines away owing to a
lot of worry and suffers from indigestion.
If the North is low, the owner commands good respect in the
society, gets profit, his progeny thrives, his desires are
fulfilled and he enjoys luxuries life.
If the North-East is low, the owner will lead a pleasant life,
enjoying the company of a happy family, get wealth and his
family flourishes by leaps and bounds.
If the central part is low, everything is lost.

|
EFFECT OF THE
CONSTRUCTION IN ELEVATIONS AND DEPRESSIONS (
17th September -- 23th September 2001 )
Whether the East side is low or high on a plot, if sheds,
pandals or huts etc. are constructed on the east side wall,
there will be loss of wealth, agricultural produce and riches,
progeny will be lost, the owner will suffer from melancholy and
humiliation.
In the low part of a plot, if a well is dug or a culvert is
built on the East or between the East and North-East, riches
will grow.
If there are pits and holes etc. on the East, there will be a
large monetary benefit.
If rubbish and heaps of dung etc. are thrown into the pits and
holes on the East side, there will be monetary loss and poverty
steps in.
If the East is elevated and a well is dug on that side, progress
perishes.
If the South-East is elevated and well, pits, holes or culverts
are dug on the South-East, between the East and the South-East
or between the South-East and the South, there will be wild
fire, fear of fire and worry owing to enemies.
If the South-East is high and rubbish and heaps of dung are
dumped there, it will be auspicious.
If sheds and huts etc. are built high on the elevated South-East
side, there will be success, profit and increase in riches.
If the South-East is low and a well, holes or pits are dug or a
culvert is built on the South-East between the East and
South-East, or between the South-East and the South, there will
be fear of fire, worry from enemies and prolonged diseases or
wife suffers from prolonged disease or some loss.
If the South-East is low and sheds and huts are built on that
side there will be unnecessary expenditure, financial depression
and monetary loss.
If the South is elevated and a well, pits or holes are dug or
culverts are built on the South, between the South-East and the
South or between the South and South-West, the owner of the plot
always falls ill and fears death.
It will be auspicious, if rubbish and heaps of dung are
accumulated on the South, when it is elevated.
There will be monetary benefit and increase in riches when
sheds, huts or pandals are erected high on an elevated ground on
the South.
There will prevail illness, monetary loss and fear of death, if
a well, pits or holes are dug or a culvert is built on the
South, between the South-East and South or between the South and
South-West.
If the South of a plot is low, sheds, huts or pandals are
erected on that plot, of course, there will be income, but all
the money that comes is wasted; there will be no happiness,
loans are raised; the owner suffers from ficklemindedness.
If the South-West if elevated and a well, pits or holes are dug,
or a culvert is built on the South-West, between the South and
South-West or between the South-West and the West, the landlord
suffers from incurable diseases, feuds, enmity, fear of enemies,
humiliation, loss of wealth, poverty and fear of death.
If the South-West is high and rubbish and heaps of dung are kept
there, it will be profitable and gives success.
If the South-West is elevated and a round-house is built on it
at a high level on that plot, it will be stow riches on the
owner of the plot.
If the South-West is elevated and sheds, huts or pandals are
erected high on that plot, there will be growth in riches
monetary benefit command on respect and patronage of the
Government.
If the South-West is depressed and a well, pits or holes are dug
or a culvert is built on the South-West, between South and
South-West or between the South-West and West, the landlord will
face untold calamities like incurable diseases, monetary loss,
fear from enemies, forcible arrest, prison-life, loss of
property, fear of death and the like.
If the South-West is low and sheds, huts or pandals are erected
on such plot, though there is income, the owner of the plot
cannot enjoy pleasant life; enemies will grow in number and he
will suffer from restlessness.
If there is elevation on the West and a well, pits or holes are
dug or a culvert is built on the West, between the West and
South-West or between the West and North-West, there will be
loss of wealth, decay of clan and it will be inauspicious.
If the West is elevated, the main entrance of the house (Simha
Dwara) is on the East, a well should be dug exactly behind the
house which has the main entrance in such a way that the center
of the main entrance and that of the well should be opposite to
each other precisely. Then one can ward off the evils mentioned
in the above case.
If the West is elevated and sheds, huts or pandals are erected
high on that plot, there will be monetary benefit and happiness.
If the West is depressed and the above constructions are
erected, the owner will be unhappy and lose wealth.
If the North-West is elevated and the above mentioned
constructions are erected on the North-West, between West and
North-West or between the North-West and North, there will be
more number of enemies; the land lord suffers from indigestion,
melancholy and mental worry.
If the North-West is low and the above mentioned constructions
are erected on the North-West or between the West and North-West
or between the North-West and North, the number of enemies
increase and the landlord will suffer from restlessness.
If the North-West is elevated and sheds and other constructions
are erected high on the elevation, there will be prosperity of
cattle and wealth.
If the North-West is depressed and sheds and other constructions
are erected there, decay of cattle, loss of happiness and a lot
of expenditure are indicated.
If the North is elevated, well and pits etc. are dug on the
North between the North and North-West or between North and
North East, there will be income; but the land lord becomes a
target for Royal anger and extravagance; his wife and children
will suffer from ill health.
If the North is low and the above mentioned constructions are
made between the North-West and North, there will be many
enemies and restlessness. The owner suffers from mental worry
and extravagance.
If the North is low and a well or pits etc. are dug on that side
or between North and North-East, it will be good for the growth
of wealth, riches, happiness and commanding honour.
If the North is elevated and sheds or huts etc. are erected
there, besides decay of progeny, melancholy and poverty are
indicated.
If the North is low and sheds or pandals etc. are erected there,
the landlord suffers from many calamities and decay of wealth
and clan.
Whether the North is elevated or depressed, if rubbish or heaps
of dung are dumped there, the owner of the plot will lose
wealth, meets a lot of expenditure, will be unhappy and suffers
from fickle-mindedness.
If the North-East is elevated and a well or pit etc. are dug in
the North-East between the North and North- East or between the
North-East and East, there will be a lot of expenditure; the
owner has to face Royal anger and suffer owing to the burden of
loans, diseases and fickle-mindedness.
If the North-East is depressed and a well is dug or a culvert
constructed in the North-East, between the North and North-East
or between the North-East and East, there will be growth in rich
luxuries, growth of clan and progress in getting name and fame,
the owner will be honoured by the Government.
Whether the North-East is high or low, if sheds or pandals etc.
are erected there, the owner's wife and progeny will face
difficulties, lack of happiness and forego luxuries.

VASTUSHASTRA
IV (
10th September -- 16th September 2001 ) Verandah
The height of the Verandah should be a little less than the
other rooms. Verandah should not be to the south or to the west
sides of the main building. No corner of the Verandah should be
oblique cut or of round shape.
It is beneficial to have a Verandah to the east or the north
side of the main structure. Because of this Verandah, evil
forces do not enter the house at once. Shoes etc. can be removed
here before we enter the main building. The holiness and the
cleanliness of the structure is maintained.
The sitting arrangement in the Verandah should be in the south
or the west part of the Verandah. If there is a swing in the
Verandah, it should be in the east-west.
If the Verandah has a roof, the height should be less than that
of the roof of the main building. If the roof is slanting in the
east or the north direction, it is auspicious. Roof should not
be made of tin as far as possible.
Stone, mortar or the grindstone should not be kept in the
Verandah. The Verandah should have maximum number of windows and
free ventilation.
Flower pot in the Verandah should be of small size. Flower pots
with creepers should not be kept in the Verandah.
A photograph of the lord Ganesh or the Lord Shankar in the
Verandah is auspicious.
The shoes of the visitors should be in the north west direction.
Staircase
There should not be common staircase for going upstairs and to
the basement. The uppermost stairs should have a roof. The
number of stairs should not be 10, 20, 30 etc. with zero in the
unit place. The number of stairs should be odd.
The main staircase of the building should be in the south, the
west or the south-west corner. It should never be in the
north-east corner. A staircase in the north-east corner leads to
loss of wealth. The business comes to a standstill. The owner of
the building faces bankruptcy. A staircase in any other corner
reduces the losses
The staircases should rise from the east to the west or the
north to the south direction.
If the staircase has doors, the upper most door should be 9"
to 1" shorter in length than the lowermost.
A staircase should not be in the central square of the building.
The main staircase should not originate from or end in strong
room, the lumber room, kitchen or the prayer room. The safe
should not be kept under the stairs.
Stairs should have a light colour. Staircase should not encircle
the building. It leads to many calamities. The peace of the
family is disturbed.
Staircase from the south, the west or the south-west corner is
beneficial. Circular staircase should be avoided.
Due to paucity of land, if the staircase is constructed in the
south-east or the north-west corner, it can be tolerated but, it
may lead to minor injuries to children to some extent.
If the staircase is in the south-east or the south-west region,
it should rise from the east to the west or from the north to
the south.
At many places the staircase is not in a good state. It should
be immediately repaired. Otherwise, mental tension increase due
to clashes. The stairs or the starting part of the stairs should
not be round.
