Importance of Fruits

1) Fruits act as tonic for our body. They are excellent sources of vitamins and are at their best when eaten raw and ripe. All citrus fruits like lemons and oranges and guava are rich in vitamin C, papaya is an excellent source of carotene and vitamin C, mangoes contain vitamin A in plenty and not to forget the good old apple containing vitamin A, E, H and B complex.

2) Fruits help in elimination of nitrogenous waste and chlorides from body by lowering the density of urine and increasing its frequency.

3) Fruits are invaluable for sick and invalids as a quick replenishment of energy for they are easily digestible and keep the body free from toxic waste.

4) Fruits are helpful in maintaining the acid-alkaline balance in body. They offset the toxic effects of acids in the body and restore its alkalinity. Fruits supply all the elements needed by the body for cell regeneration and healing activity and thereby help in fast recovery.

5) Fruits are the best way to hydrate the system. It not only supplies the body with water but also provides sugar and minerals.

6) The fruits facilitate the bowel movement, as they are replete with fibers, sugars and organic acids.

7) The curative properties of certain fruits can fight specific diseases, e.g., the quince or stone apple (bel) helps in correcting the digestive system, dates, apples and mangoes have a direct impact on central nervous system, lemon, oranges, pomegranate and apples assist the proper functioning of the heart and keep it healthy. Almonds and walnuts strengthen the weak brain. A diet, lavishly interspersed with fruits and juices, aids immensely a healthy existence. It helps in building the disease fighting abilities of body and keeps us energized and active.
