Methods Of Naturopathy

--  TUBERCULOSIS --

Tuberculosis is one of the most dreaded diseases which has plagued mankind for centuries and is supposed, according to modern medicine, to be caused by the organism mycobacterium tuberculosis. It may affect any part of the body, but the most important form is the TB of the lungs. If it affects the membrance of the brain, it causes what is known as meningitis. Its manifestations are inflammation of the bones and the swelling of the joints. If it attacks the glands of the body it is called scrofula. Bones, the intestines and the genito-urinary tracts are also the sites of this fell disease resulting in death in many cases. TB of the lungs.

In the early stages there is cough of an irritating nature, particularly in the morning. Sometimes, the first sign is the spitting of blood. There is loss of first sign is the spitting of blood. There is loss of appetite, colour and strength followed by emaciation and loss of weight. A very important sign is a regular rise in temperature, either in the forenoon, or more often in the early afternoon, with a fall below normal in the early morning. The digestion processes are thrown out of gear - diarrhoea or constipation are present. There may also be pain in the chest indicating the involvement of the pleura. The second stage begins when ragged cavities are formed in the lungs; X-ray examination shows effusion and the symptoms described above become more acute. In the terminal stage, the lung shows signs of shrinking and sometimes, it falls in. If the throat becomes involved, the voice is husky, the diarrhea becomes more troublesome and there may even be hemorrhages. Emaciation is now extreme, the temperature swings from one extreme to another and there is copious sweating. Death comes due to excessive loss of blood or sudden lowering of temperature and the inability of the lungs to suck air.
The main causative factor in TB, according to naturopathy, is the devitalisation of the system because of wrong feeding and a lowering of the vital force. Mineral starvation of the tissues of the body as a whole is the real culprit. Colds, catarrh and malaria, if suppressed, may also lead to tuberculosis.

Treatment: Naturopathic treatment for this fell disease is to have the patient stay in clean, healthy surroundings, where there is plenty of fresh air and sunlight. Remember that the germs that cause TB die quickly if they are exposed to direct sunlight than if they are boiled. It is a disease of filth and poverty and proper steps should be taken to keep the environment clean. Once it strikes a person he should be first treated for fever. Cold packs to the chest and throat should be applied twice to thrice daily till the temperature comes down to normal. Spitting of blood should not frighten the patient since that is the way of nature to get rid of the poisons accumulated in the body. No so-called nourishing food as meat broth or milk should be gived so long as the temperature of the body remains above normal. Only orange juice and water is to be given and a warm water enema to get rid of the poisons in the intestinal tract. Fresh fruit diet should be started when the temperature has become normal and milk after 3 to 5 days and should be continued for some weeks. The intake of milk may be increased gradually. TB is generally associated with depletion of natural calcium in the body and milk is the best source of that calcium. But milk must be taken fresh and unboiled.

A sponge bath should be taken in the morning and breathing exercises adopted. A hot Epsom salt bath is also recommended. The diet - after the fever has subsided - should consist of fruits, vegetables, milk, wholemeal bread, butter butter, eggs, nuts, and cheese. These foods are the richest in organic calcium and would aid recovery. All devitalized foods like refined wheat flour, sugar, tinned and preserved foods should be avoided.
